Thank you to all who attended our PROMs Network Members’ Meeting held via Zoom on Friday 22nd July 2022. After a welcome by Kanthan Theivendran who chaired the meeting, followed by introductions, we discussed the following:
- Updates on each of our working groups:
- Group 2 – EMPROVE audit completed. Results published in BOA Transient Journal and now approved and awaiting publication in a major journal. Essentially, no standardisation of PROMs collection nationally in orthopaedics. Other specialities could run a similar trainee led audit to establish current PROMs practice in their field.
- Group 1 – Ajay Malviya co-ordinating efforts to work with specialist societies to give clear guidance on PROMs in their field. If interested in joining this group to help with this huge piece of work, please let us know.
- Group 4 – Data analysis and benchmarking. Difficult to start this work until other groups have completed theirs but if interested in working with Sammy Davies, please let us know.
- Group 3 – PROMs platform development, led by Kanthan Theivendran. Having received central funding, first trial with live patients in Northumbria Healthcare NHSFT for soft tissue knee procedures in August. Other sub-specialities to be added rapidly once the trial is complete. We will need clinicians to get involved in either reviewing the clinical modelling or actually writing them for their field. (Training would be given.) Although initially launching in orthopaedics and MSK pathways, the “plug-and-play” standards allow any pathway or PROMs to be easily added so if you want to write your speciality models, you are welcome to contact us.
- Network co-ordination and communications:
- We now have Spond and Twitter to communicate with members and we encourage you to engage with us so that we can provide the support and resources you want.
- Ideally we’d like to have a face-to-face meeting again, the last being March 2019! How can we achieve this as a group of volunteers with no funding? Ideas welcomed.
- With the tragic loss of Rebecca Lafferty, co-ordinating the Network and communications is challenging for Sammy and Anji alone. We’re keen to hear from anyone who would be interested in helping with any aspect such as joining the exec / co-ordinators team, updating the website, assisting with Twitter or Spond, or anything else; any and all help appreciated.
- Website content:
- Would be good to add some sort of idea of membership by region and area of experience in PROMs. We have 61 members around the country and a list could show e.g. a map and job role in order for members to find local support and networking. Thoughts?
- List of friendly organisations with whom we’re proud to collaborate would be nice to have. Discussed those we know of and asked for suggestions of any others who would be happy to be listed.
- Resources and links list was suggested and is a great idea. What would you like to see here? Would anyone like to help collate this?
- Webinars to replace coffee break chats:
- Sammy Davies offered one on how to access and analyse the wealth of data from NHSE on hip/knee arthroplasty
- Andrew willing to share how different types of analysis on EQ-5D profiles offer insight into specific conditions. Also he is interested, as a researcher, in learning how the data is collected and fed into research. This could be more of a sharing workshop if there is interest.
- Welsh Value in Health team offered to demonstrate their hip dashboard
- A couple of previously volunteered topics include differences in PROMs (scores) when collected on paper vs electronic, sharing work on PROMs in mental health at scale, and considering the logistics of setting up a PROMs programme from scratch. We will approach those members to confirm if able to arrange a webinar.
- Any member can suggest, ask or offer a topic, so please get in touch.
This was a lot crammed in to an hour but we’re keen to take forward as much as possible and will arrange further members’ meetings in order to keep momentum going. Thank you to all our members.
